Make Your Voice Heard

For years I've been complaining about letting fans vote on the All Star Game. Every year it's a popularity contest. Guys worthy of the honor get shafted and big names who have been hurt all year, ie Nomar Garciaparra, take their place instead. I understand that it's supposed to be an exhibition game for the fans, so why not let the fans decide who particpates? It makes sense. But when The Commish made the insane decision to actually base home field advantage for the World Series on the outcome, the term exhibition became a misnomer.

Now we have fans, many of whom know very little about the game of baseball, deciding which players will compete for their respective league to claim the right to home field advantage in the most important series of the season. In my opinion this is a travesty.

So I propose we have our message heard. We should show MLB how poorly us fans can be of choosing capable players to represent their league.

How do we do this? Simple. The blogosphere is interconnected and has alot of readers. By getting the word out to all the blog readers to vote for a specific, drastically unworthy player into the All Star Game it should be absolutely clear to the league how bad of an idea it is to let fans vote for the participants of such a meaningful game.

Without further ado, here are the two players Unrestricted View deems unworthy enough to make the All Star team.

NL-Neifi Perez(Cubs/2B)- .195/.220/.241

AL-Juan Castro(Twins/SS)- .233/.262/.292

All who read this, please spread the word. Let's make this happen.

Neifi Perez's double error yesterday leads me to believe you are wrong. He is truly great, an inspiration to all named Neifi. (A number, by the way, which is growing by the second, and there is a direct correlation oof number of born babies named Neifi compared with number of hospital televisions tuned to Cubs baseball.) Dusty Baker has been managing a long time, so I think he knows a good player when he sees one. Dusty plays Neifi almost every day. Coincidence? I think not. Neifi is probably the best player the Cubs have. Derrek Lee? No problem. If Neifi goes down, we're screwed.

Great idea. Fans are stupid and let's prove it. Might help to tell everyone where to vote: http://snipurl.com/r1aw. I had to write in Neifi because I couldn't find him on the ballot. You are limited to 25 votes, but you can use a fake address and go crazy.

Of course, Major League Baseball could just like about the results if that happened.

I'll vote for Neifi for the NL, but I refuse to pull any votes away from my man, Mike Young.

Surely you can come up with someone less qualified than Juan Castro. How about the White Sox CF Brian Anderson? He is hitting .167.

The reason I chose Juan Castro and Neifi Perez is because both of them have played 8+ years and are hitting right at their career line. They have no business being in league regardless of their glove work. I felt they were more worthy candidates than a struggling rookie or a slumping veteran.

Someone did mention the fact that Castro will be competing with Jeter, Tejada, and Young at SS which is an excellent point and one I mistakenly overlooked. Too late now though.

Even if it doesn't work out, It'll be fun trying.

Thanks for the comments and votes guys.

Too this point, I have maxed out the 25 vote limit on my ip address. Next step, going door to door using the neighbors computers unless someone can find a way around this 25 vote limit.

To exceed the 25 vote limit all you have to do is enter in a seperate email address. I tried it out and the email address doesn't even have to real.

I've voted a minimum of 300 times today to help get this thing rolling. I also have some buddies who are going to make huge signs promoting the campaign when they attend the Astros/Braves game next weekend. The game is going to be on ESPN, so hopefully we'll get some nationwide tv pub.

Thanks for the support!

How about STL Yadier Molina at NL catcher? .176/.234/.225 on the season.

And Vinny Castilla for 3B in the NL (.216/.265/.264).

Of course, it's most important to vote for Neifi Perez at 2nd base as a write-in so we can get this message across, and click Juan Castro at short while your at it.

The fact that this game gives homefield advantage in the Series is laughable and must be changed.

Well, not as laughable as Neifi getting 97 AB on the year already, but that's a different story.
