Jimmy Rollins 36 Game Hitting Streak...

...is over. It ended on October 2nd, 2005 in Washington. I don't care what sports writers say, or even what the commissioner says; hitting streaks do not overlap from one season to the next. Hopefully, Mr. Rollins and his .273 career batting average goes 0-5 on Opening Day so we can end this madness.

Why the hate for J-Roll? It's actually a consecutive steak record if he makes it. Dimagio will still have the single season streak record ot his name. The folks at Elias already have said it'd be two separate records.

Consecutive steak sounds yummy to me.

But seriously, I echo the comment above: what's the big deal? Are there any good reasons for not allowing a streak to split over two seasons?
